Each section of the plot I found to be well set up, making for few plot holes. Overall, I did enjoy this book, the characters I found well written and there was a lot of representation that you don’t normally see from other books, such as amputees,Indian detective etc which made it refreshing to read. The story would have been just as good without the romance but I’m just not a fan of romance being in every book I read. I didn’t come across any sections where I found the story slow or a drag, however the romance between the two main characters Irene and Kia for me came across a little forced but this is just my opinion. The plot itself can be intense at moments but not so much that you need to have a breather and put the book down. Cogman has managed to give each character the right amount of humour mixed with sarcasm leading to the conversation feeling like they flow more and that it’s a real conversation between two people. There wasn’t too much of either, and for those who are engle eyed among us you’ll be able to see the clues as to who was behind the robbery through as Cogman has intertwined clues within the narrative and dialogue. I found this book to be a nice balance of narrative and dialogue. Is he on Irene’s side? To add to Irene and her worries the world reality she finds herself in is infested with chaos resulting in an imbalance of the supernatural resulting in her not only dealing with her human foe but vampire, werewolf and fae too. Throughout the story we are getting to know the characters, how they act, what they like and don’t like.Due to this we grow increasingly surpistion of Kia, we can see he’s hiding something as on certain topics he’ll give vague answers or go missing and not giving a good reason for his going missing. The book was so intense from start to finish, everytime you thought you knew what was going on and who the bad guys were things would change and you’d be left guessing again. I never knew what was going to happen next. The premise of this book is amazing and isn’t something I’ve seen before, as well as mixing the two genres fantasy and science fiction together, it was a great read. This is a book I couldn’t put down! I spent many nights avoiding sleep so I could continue reading. Their mission, to retrieve a dangerous book which to their horror has already been stolen! Within a reality infested with chaos where the normal laws of physics don’t apply, they must battle for this book in which the other side is willing to fight to the death to keep. This makes her no ordinary librarian she’s also a spy along with her assistant Kai, who are sent to an alternative London. Irene is a professional librarian for the mysterious library who happens to go back in time and to alternative realities to get rare books.
